Moose Lake, Minnesota professional poker player Wade Woelfel, who made a name for himself as one of the standout online poker players, now faces charges of third-degree murder, which can include a $40,000 fine and up to 25 years in prison, according to CBS Minnesota WCCO-TV.
According to court documents cited in the report, Woeful allegedly sold drugs to 44 year-old Bryan Marconcini back on October 8th, 2021, which led to his fatal overdose.
Documents state Marconcini “had addiction issues with illegal narcotics” and was found unresponsive in a bathroom by his girlfriend, who called 911.
Marconcini was pronounced dead at the scene, and an autopsy revealed several drugs present in his system, including meth, fentanyl, and amphetamine.
Marconcini’s girlfriend provided information to authorities that led them to Woelfel, who was “known to agents as both a user and a seller of narcotics.”
Surveillance video footage showed Marconcini and Woelfel meeting and completing a drug deal, and text messages are also deemed incriminating.
Upon his arrest, Woelfel had various drugs, a digital scale, and drug paraphernalia.
This is not the first run in with trouble for Woelfel, who, according to the Mankato Free Press, was nabbed in 2016 when agents of Homeland Security intercepted a mail package addressed to Woelfel that contained more than 100 pills of Ecstasy. The package was intercepted by the United States Customs and Border Control at a New York airport.
This led to a warrant for his place in Minnesota, and allegedly led to him being busted while in the process of ordering drugs online. Woelfel was formally charged with six felonies related to drug possession.
